Welcome, I am Jo Walsh a mixed media and digital artist.
After leaving school I studied graphic design, which I did not particularly enjoy and for 30 years I just about forgot about art. Around six years ago I came across the new mixed media whilst browsing the web and my life changed. I have since learnt as much as I can from informal online classes and YouTube videos about this whole new art world, miles away from the Gouache and manual type setting of my art college days. I now experiment with an exciting array of styles and substances : fabric and clay sculpture, collaged collectable art books, acrylic and watercolour, digital art and my favourite combination of collage and acrylic backgrounds with water mixable oils.
Creative influences are my proximity in the UK to the moors of Emily Bronte and the old town of Whitby where Bram Stoker penned Dracula. I am also fond of artists such as Hieronymus Bosch and Mark Ryden, the fantasy/sci-fi books of China Mieville and Korean horror films. I hope you find something to interest and excite you in my art as much as I have found in creating it.
I have recently become very interested in the past and present lives and culture of the Native American Indian and am currently creating a body of work around them.
My art has recently been published in the Internationally acclaimed Living the Photo Artistic Life magazine – Issues 21, 22, 23 and 24. Please take a look at mine and many other artist’s wonderful art here Photo Artistic Life Magazine
